A Terrifying Personality Test

The internet is swarming with personality tests that you can take to get to know more about you. There are tests know what your fears are, or to determine whether you are more introverted or extroverted. But what if you can get to know yourself more while braving through terrifying effects? Fun, right? The Watson-Scott Test is an indie game app that lets you discover your deepest and darkest fears while giving you a unique horror experience. It is a multiple choice text-based game that reveals your personality

Unique Game Features

The Watson-Scott Test is composed of 30 multiple-choice questions which will help you know if you are more afraid of clowns, snakes or something more sinister. It can also determine if you are a pathological liar or an emphatic listener. The questions vary from asking you whether you believe in ghosts or not to asking you if you run from danger or take it head on. Your choices for each question affects the overall result that you will get by the end of the quiz. There are two quizzes that you can take.

But what makes the Watson-Scott Test different from other quiz games is its horrific elements. While you take the quiz, the app creates a creepy and suspenseful atmosphere, leaving you on edge throughout the game. This atmosphere builds up as you progress becoming more suspicious and malicious.

It also comes with sounds that is enough to make you jump. The Watson-Scott Test utilizes Steam's 3D spatial audio giving you truly unnerving scares.  It has a surround sound making it seem like the noise comes from outside the game.

The game lasts for 20 minutes, making it a short playtime. Users are welcome to take the tests multiple times to explore the secrets behind the game.

The Good and The Bad

The Watson-Scott Test is all about helping you find out your fears, but what players don't know is that it probably intensify their fear of the unknown. The game will keep you on edge the entire time.  A deranged-sounding man narrates the game. However, you can't see his face as you play making you conclude as to how he looks and horrible can be.

The game has exploited the fear of the unknown by giving you thoughts that are far more terrifying than what's in reality. And with the addition of suspenseful atmosphere and great sound, this game can make you feel uncomfortable and unsafe the whole time.

However, while the game is an expert in building tension, you might find the end a little disappointing. There are two jumpscares at the end of the game which may not be scary at all. These jumpscares do not have anything to do with the game and only relies on the sound to be scary. Players may also find the fourth-wall breaking a little bit cliché. Some questions are also kind of controversial such as stabbing eyeballs or killing yourself in various ways. You may also find some symbolism petty

Game Verdict

To conclude, the Watson-Scott Test has the potential to be a great game. It comes with a unique concept that you just don't see in other horror games. It presents a good amount of tension coupled with good use of sounds. However, the game can be ruined by cliches and unconvincing fourth-wall breaks. By putting too many tension-building elements, the game can be overly edgy. As it is today, the game needs more improvement to make sure that the bad things do not overshadow the good.
